MEET YOUR EDITOR
Hi, I’m Bailee!
I’ve been working as a freelance editor for over two years now, and I absolutely adore working with fantasy and romance authors to make their stories as compelling as possible.
When I first stepped into this industry, I noticed there was a lack of collaboration between authors and editors, and the editing process often felt transactional, with no room for the author to ask clarifying questions or get additional context.
I truly believe that every author deserves an editor who will work with them to preserve and enhance the story they’ve already written.
I’m so incredibly excited to support you on your journey to becoming a published author!
FAQ
-
Of course! Here are some of the key terms to get familiar with before we begin:
Developmental Editing - editing done in the developmental stages of writing that addresses issues like plot, pacing, and character arcs.
Editorial Letter - a letter from your editor breaking down the strengths and opportunities for improvement in the plot, pacing, and character arcs of your novel (more things may be addressed, but these are the main areas we focus on).
Story Map - a big-picture overview of the current pacing of your manuscript
-
Yes! We offer sample edits of up to 1,000 words. Please email us at bailee.condie@inkandquillpublishing.com if you would like to start here.
-
It’s best to wait until you have a completed draft before booking with us! We always recommend self-editing as much as possible before getting professional eyes on your work, so leave yourself plenty of time to do a revision or two yourself.
-
Since our main focus is on big-picture, developmental things at this stage, we don’t offer many line-level edits (though your editor may leave a couple of comments throughout if there are common line-level mistakes). However, it is not uncommon for our editorial letters to pass 2-3k words, meaning you’re still getting a high-level of detail with a developmental focus.
It’s common to see a fluctuation within the volume of comments left in your manuscript — which is not an indication of quality or detail. The in-line comments we leave are meant to provide you with in-context examples rather than the bulk or value of the edit.

Our team will reach out to in within 48 hours to provide you with the official date of your Edit Week, as well as instructions and a link to schedule your Prep and Strategy Calls.

Due to the volume of work and level of detail a One Week Story Makeover requires, we are only able to take on a limited number of editing projects per month. Our schedule tends to fill up quickly, and we recommend booking your Edit Week at least 1-2 months in advance. However, you cn always email us at bailee.condie@inkandquillpublishing.com to double check availability if you need a quicker turnaround.

Due to the nature of the work, the high demand for our editing services, and the quality we pride ourselves on within your edits, we are not able to offer a refund once the first installment has been paid. If you have any questions or concerns prior to submitting your proposal and first installment, please reach out to us at bailee.condie@inkandquillpublishing.com.
